We are an Estonian medical device startup founded in Tallinn in 2014 by Ph.D Maarja Kruusmaa, M.D. Ph.D Peeter Ross and Ph.D Asko Ristolainen. Our decision to found SafeToAct came from the realization the current training methods in the field of interventional medicine deserve innovation and can be significantly improved. In 2011, we saw the need for better simulation tools and started prototyping our version of a 3D kidney replica, that we affectionately call the kidney phantom, with both affordability and high fidelity in mind.
Our headquater is situated in Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol near Tallinn University of Technology and its campus. Tehnopol is Estonian’s own Silicon Valley, a business environment with homes for startup incubators, innovation centers and more than 200 technology-based enterprises, including such household names as Skype and AgileWorks. Because of our location and connections, we are able to tightly collaborate with the local biorobotic, engineering and food and information technology talent toconstantly improve everything we do.
To always be on the cutting edge of medical education and know our target demographic as best as possible, we cooperate with East-Tallinn Central Hospital and arrange kidney phantom training sessions to our interventional medicine residents. In these training sessions, the trainees are able to hone theirinterventional procedures practical skillset on our kidney phantoms, socialize with other trainees they normally would not, and speak their minds about their hopes and expectations from the education they are receiving. Our goal is to raise the quality of healthcare in the field of interventional medicine and we believe it is vital to work together with the soon-to-be attending physicians to achieve it.
